Clinical and Laboratory Aspects of Thyroglobulin and Thyroglobulin Antibody in Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma

چکیده
Thyroglobulin (Tg) is a precursor for thyroid hormone, specifically synthesized by follicular cells upon stimulation the stimulating hormone (TSH). Damage to caused benign or malignant diseases cause release of Tg into circulation. Differentiated cancer (DTC) most common endocrine malignancy, which has an excellent prognosis if detected and treated early. This review describes clinical laboratory aspects AntiTg measurement in management DTC. The serum been used pre- post-operative significance role its low level can play diagnosis monitoring DTC as well prediction recurrence must be understood. may lead production different with novel immunogenic epitopes that induce TgAb synthesis. preoperative shown high predictive value DTC, while postoperative detection disease persistence recurrence. Despite importance management, presence interferes analysis measurement, thus limiting utility. There no established regarding at measurement. Available methods measuring should emphasize lower upper limits their detection, especially early detection. accurate pertinent follow-up patients, any suspicious results interpreted accordance findings view present possible assay interference.

Gostimir MIKAČ Faculty of Medicine Save Mrkalja 22 78000 Banja Luka Republic of Srpska Bosnia and Herzegovina [email protected] SUMMARY Introduction Thyroglobulin is composed glycoprotein, and it is synthesized by follicular cells of the thyroid gland. Treatment of differentiated thyroid carcinomas involves total thyroidectomy followed by radioiodine ablation of a potential remaining tissue. The m...

BACKGROUND Increased levels of thyroglobulin (Tg) and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) are associated with differentiated thyroid carcinoma (TC) risk, but strong epidemiological evidence is lacking. METHODS Three hundred fifty-seven incident TC case patients (n = 300 women and 57 men; mean age at blood collection = 51.5 years) were identified in the EPIC cohort study and matched with 2 (wome...
متن کاملImportance of measurement of thyroglobulin and anti-thyroglobulin antibodies in differentiated thyroid cancer.
Differentiated thyroid cancers include papillary and follicular carcinomas, both originating from follicular epithelium. Treatment of choice is usually total or near total thyroidectomy, followed by ablative radioiodine 131I treatment, and by the long-term administration of thyroid hormone. Despite its excellent prognosis, recurrent disease does occur in approximately 20-40% of patients. Guidel...
متن کاملHigh Thyroglobulin Antibody Levels Increase the Risk of Differentiated Thyroid Carcinoma
BACKGROUND Despite the many studies examining thyroid cancers, the effect of thyroid autoantibodies on differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) remains unclear. OBJECTIVE To investigate the association between serologic thyroid autoantibodies (ATAs) and DTC, we retrospectively evaluated data of thyroid nodules obtained from patients who underwent thyroid surgery. METHODS Data of thyroid nodul...

BACKGROUND Even though the presence of antithyroglobulin antibodies (TgAbs) represents a significant problem in the follow-up of patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC), the current guidelines on the management of DTC that have been published in recent years contain no text concerning the methods to be used for detecting such antibody-related interference in thyroglobulin (Tg) measure...
